"Tashmoo Cottage and Hideaway"

Vineyard Haven Hideaway
On the beautiful Island of Martha's Vineyard, there is a quiet place at the end of the road……

With 7 bedrooms, large dining areas, and wonderful outdoor spaces available for play, this is a perfect get-away for extended families and reunions.
The generous home we call the Hideaway, consists of an old wing built in the 1970's married with a new post and beam wing built in the year 2000. The complete building reaches 100 feet from east to west at it's broadest, with a small manager unit behind a fenced-in deck in the middle, separating the two sections. The buildings are well maintained and cared for, and help is right on hand, should there be any questions or concerns during your stay here.

The love of nature is evident in how the buildings are situated in the landscape. You will also find natural materials skillfully utilized throughout.

The Old Wing section to the West, welcomes you with breathtaking cathedral ceilings over a rustic oak floor and recycled barn board paneling. The family room contains a unique full kitchen with dark green granite counters and rustic copper backsplash. A custom crafted wooden island provides ample room for socializing, while turning out a gourmet meal together. A large well-worn table can seat up to14 people right next to the kitchen.
There are two downstairs bedrooms next to the full bathroom. One bedroom is large and has a generous closet, the other is smaller and has a large drawer for storing your stuff away. Each room downstairs has two twin beds.

There is a private master suite upstairs with a generous king sized bed. Next to the master is a bonus loft, overlooking the cathedral ceilings and the downstairs sitting area. Here is space for kids to hang out with cards play and board games. The loft is great also for adults wanting to get away for quiet time and a good book.
An exterior upstairs deck off the master suite, invites you to a glass of wine as you take in the setting sun over the three tops.

The New Wing to the east, has beautiful post and beam joinery. A unique copper top bar facing the south, with a view through multiple glass doors, serves as an extension to outside living. A bathroom with a shower next to the bar makes for an easy social hangout with friends or family. There is a large living room with a fireplace and a TV with cable hook up, and snug leather furniture

A back door and side door allows you to deliver your luggage right on the threshold from an around the house driveway. The bar/kitchen contains a microwave above a gas range oven, a toaster, a two-door refrigerator/freezer with icemaker and a coffee machine.

on the New Wing second story, are two wonderful bedrooms. A master suite, with an oversized queen bed adjoining the master bathroom, has a double-sided fireplace, enjoyable both in the master bedroom and from the double-ended tub in the master bath.

The junior bedroom has a full bed. Both bedrooms and the bathroom have glass doors letting maximum light in from an upstairs private deck that overlooks the whole compound and the surrounding forest.

A third story features another two romantic rooms with skylights and a view that makes you feel like you're sitting in a tree house. Each room in the third story has two twin beds.

This small Martha's Vineyard vacation rental home has the maximum of natural light and useful space you can expect in an 800-sq. ft. Tisbury vacation house. White pickled wood cathedral ceilings and natural slate tile work accented by skylights and lots of windows, give the feeling of being outside in the surrounding forest, while enjoying the privacy of the Martha's Vineyard vacation rental home.

The living room has a glass window wood stove that can also function as an open fireplace for romantic ambiance. A full kitchen with a gas stove, a double door refrigerator with icemaker, a dishwasher, a butcher-block peninsula and state of the art microwave oven, suits gastronomes as well as the basic food preparer.

The kitchen is open to the living room and is showered with light through the many windows over the tumbled marble counters. A 12'x28' deck to the west, overlooking a pleasant fishpond, allows outdoor dining to view the sunset.

There are two equal sized bedrooms with generous mirror-door closets. One room features a queen-sized bed, the other has two twin beds. Both bedrooms have double glass doors opening up to the rising sun in the East so you can start to enjoy the day, even before you get out of bed.

A stairway to the upstairs loft and newly added bonus room, offer a place for your guests, or extended family. The extra room under the cathedral ceilings can be added for a small fee to your two room Martha's Vineyard vacation rental.

The floors in all downstairs rooms are maple hardwood that abuts an Indian slate tile at the entrance and around the wood stove.

The Cottage has a full bathroom with a shower/tub. A beautiful outdoor shower on the north wall is still our favorite way to shower off the sand after a long day at the beach.

Beautiful Tashmoo Pond Beach is only a mile from the front porch. You can easily walk or bike through the forest on a pleasant dirt road leading to the secluded Land Bank Beach, or to the end of the sand peninsula where there is a perfect shellfish and crab exploratory shallow on one side, and a life guard posted to the deeper ocean side (during the summer.) It's a perfect mile for a morning jog to either beach.

The Tashmoo Cottage would fit best for one or two mature couples or a couple with one or two children. The neighborhood has a quiet "end of the road" character, but is close to Vineyard Haven shops and restaurants. Our Tisbury vacation home is one mile away from the ferry dock.
