"Windswept"

Windswept--aptly named--sits high atop Mill Hill on one acre, facing a quiet, working 18th-Century windmill, which grinds corn. Windswept's views are of the Old Mill, ocean, harbor, bay and the town's church steeples and two woods. Windswept is a delightful 10-minute walk to Main Street's shops, restaurants, theaters, movies, beaches, post offices, and grocery/drug stores, plus a two-minute walk to the Island-wide shuttle bus stop and bike paths.

Families can also enjoy Windswept together with our nearby secluded air-conditioned one-bedroom home for multigenerational reunions(see #579). This family compound sleeps 12. With their superb location--the Island's best--no car is necessary, but both houses have four off-street parking spaces at the end of the long, winding driveway. From tall and deep blackberry bushes on the driveway, guests pick plump, juicy berries for pies, cakes and muffins or to eat instantly.

Air-conditioned Windswept, almost 100 years old, has a wraparound porch with four teak Adirondack chairs, four teak ottomans, two picnic tables and benches; separate dining room; eat-in kitchen; large pantry; gigantic living room; mammoth master bedroom with bookshelves and many books, sitting area and large cable television; outdoor enclosed hot/cold shower with large dressing area; spacious yards for picnics and family or children's games, such as baseball, volleyball, badminton and croquet--Windswept has them all; three cable TVs; a 10-CD changer/tape/radio system; board games; DVD player, VCR, PlayStation2; complimentary high-speed wireless Internet; fireplace in mammoth living room; Oriental rugs; and hardwood floors.

Three bedrooms of varying sizes are on the second floor; the fourth bedroom is in the aboveground, well-lighted lower level with its own bathroom, entry/exit and wall-to-wall carpet. Kids vie with each other to stay in this bedroom.

Beds: one king, six twins.

Amenities: Charcoal BBQ grill; enclosed outdoor hot/cold after-swim shower with spacious dressing area; beach chairs that can be carried or worn on the back with a pouch for a cooler; three-sizes of beach coolers; microwave oven; blender; lobster pot and fish poacher; complimentary high-speed wireless Internet (WiFi); VCR; DVD player; PlayStation2; volleyball, baseball, badminton, and croquet; beach toys; new front-loading washer and dryer; linens/beach towels; two hair dryers; fireplace; telephones and answering machine; Bosch dishwasher; toaster; 10-cup coffeemaker; dishes/utensils; three cable TV's; a 10-CD changer/tape/radio system. Windswept always has fresh flowers.

Caretaker lives nearby and responds quickly to tenants' requests, thereby guaranteeing their comfort and enjoyment. The caretaker greets guests, gives them literature about Nantucket's happenings, acquaints them with the Island and makes them feel at home in Windswept and on Nantucket. For a fee, she will buy groceries and supplies and stock the refrigerator before guests arrive. No smokers/pets/candles.

Nearby activities: beachcombing (for shells, beach glass, and "mermaid purses"), natural history/museum tours, biking, family/fishing boating, sailing, surfing, tennis, golf, kayaking, snorkeling, birding, seal/whale/lobster cruises, aquarium/observatory viewing, laning, kiting, art classes, crabbing trips, tie-dying clinics, wildflower walks, soccer/baseball/field hockey/lacrosse/basketball camps for kids, theater productions, outdoor family concerts, visual arts displays, auctions, tie-dying clinics, scalloping and musseling.
