"In the Lee"

This cheerful, secluded, air-conditioned home named In the Lee faces an 18th-Century quiet, working windmill, which grinds corn. Located in Nantucket's Old Historic District on Mill Hill, In the Lee is a 10-minute delightful walk to Main Street's shops, restaurants, movies, theaters, post offices and grocery/drug stores. It is within walking distance of several town beaches and only a two-minute walk to the Island-wide shuttle stop and bike paths.

Families can also enjoy In the Lee together with the nearby magnificent four-bedroom home for multigenerational reunions (see #578). This family compound on one acre atop Mill Hill sleeps 12. With their superb location--the Island's best--no car is necessary, but both houses have four off-street parking spaces at the end of a long, winding driveway. From tall and deep blackberry bushes on this driveway, guests pick juicy, plump berries for pies, cakes and muffins or to eat instantly.

A romantic, completely private brick patio and large yard are behind In the Lee. Guests enjoy cooking sweet, succulent Nantucket scallops on the 18-inch charcoal grill and eating them at the large teak Adirondack table and four comfortable teak chairs. Guests shower on the brick patio in the enclosed outdoor hot/cold shower.

Beds: 1 queen, 1 double futon with an eight-inch mattress and springs.

Amenities: Charcoal BBQ grill, outdoor hot/cold enclosed after-swim shower, beach chairs that can be worn on the back with a pouch for a cooler, washer/dryer, linens/beach towels, dishwasher, board games, books, telephone and answering machine, microwave oven, lobster pot, fish poacher, blender, toaster, 10-cup coffeemaker, dishes/utensils, 20-inch color cable TV, VCR, DVD player, a 10-CD changer/tape/radio system, fresh flowers, complimentary high-speed wireless Internet (WiFi).

The caretaker lives nearby and responds quickly to tenants' requests, thereby ensuring their comfort and enjoyment. She greets guests, gives them literature about Nantucket and its happenings, and makes them feel comfortable on the Island and in this home. For a fee, the caretaker will shop for groceries and supplies to stock the refrigerator before tenants' arrivals.

No Smokers/Pets/Candles.

Activities: Everything in town is within walking distance of In the Lee. Its location is superb, making a car unnecessary, but In the Lee has two off-street parking spaces at the end of a long, winding driveway. Bike paths and the island-wide shuttle bus are nearby to all points on the Island.

Nearby activities: beach combing (for shells, beach glass and "mermaid purses"), natural history/museum tours, biking, family/fishing boating, sailing, surfing, tennis, golf, kayaking, snorkeling, birding, seal/whale/lobster cruises, aquarium/observatory viewing, laning, kiting, crabbing trips, wildflower walks, tie-dying clinics, theater productions, soccer/baseball/field hockey/basketball/lacrosse camps for kids, art classes, outdoor family concerts (including Boston Pops), visual arts displays, scalloping and musseling. Pick plump, juicy blackberries on the driveway.

Area: In the Lee's location can't be beat. Beaches, restaurants, shops, movies, theaters, post offices and drug/grocery stores are within walking distance. In the Lee has two off-street parking spaces but a car isn't necessary. Guests can walk to everything in town.

It's quiet at In the Lee.
